L’Ecole Des Beaux Arts is an Artist Supply, Hardware and Housewares brand founded by artist Sara Moffat. In 2012, Sara took her love for craft and applied it to education. She started thinking about how children could benefit from design and nature, and has since started a school teaching NYC youngsters unique and invaluable skills, such as: how to pitch their own tents, how to build and manage shelters and fires safely, how to make arrows, tie knots, identify plants, mushrooms and trees, how to milk cows, feed and care for chickens, pigs, sheep and goats. Sara’s farm camp is exclusively held during the summer months in Great Barrington, Massachusets, however you can also sign-up for her Brooklyn classes year-round.
Sara was introduced through a mutual friend that had been asked to assist in helping set up this summer’s kids farm camp. Off we went to explore the terrain of Mark Firth’s farm, located in the beautiful Berkshires of south-western Massachusetts.
Driving from Hudson, New York - a short 45 minute trip from Great Barrington.
Roads are a mixture of asphalt, gravel, and mud. There were plenty of chances to off-road in various aspects of the countryside.
The property is expansive yet safe, a great landscape for camp-goers.
Will Lisak, chainsawing wood for our fire.
Best Made Co. supplied extra merch.
There were plenty of swimming holes in the area. This particular spot had two separate rope-swings, perfect for cooling off after the day of work.
Later in the evening we headed back to camp where Sara had prep'd a fire for dinner.
